Bolo!
Last updated: August 2, 2026
Bolo! ("we", "us", or "the app") is a language-learning app that helps you learn to speak Central and Eastern European languages out loud. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to both the Bolo! website and the Bolo! mobile app.
We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app:
Your audio recordings are used for one purpose only: scoring your pronunciation. An audio clip is sent to our backend, processed to produce a transcription and a pronunciation score, and is not retained beyond that scoring request. We do not use your voice recordings to build voice profiles, and we do not sell or share your recordings with third parties for advertising or any other purpose.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make the app work, and only to the extent needed to provide the service:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
We keep your account information and learning progress for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your associated personal data and learning progress.
Voice recordings. In normal use, your voice recordings are processed to score your pronunciation and are not retained after the scoring request completes.
Separately, we run an optional voice contribution mode used to improve Bolo!'s pronunciation scoring. This mode is clearly indicated on screen and is only available to invited contributors. Recordings made in contribution mode are retained, along with the phrase and language they belong to, and are used solely to evaluate and improve our scoring system. If a contributor re-records a phrase, the discarded take is deleted. Contributors can request deletion of their contributed recordings at any time by contacting us, and we delete them when the associated account is deleted.
Bolo! is friendly enough for younger learners, but it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or by email where appropriate.
If you have questions about this policy, or want to access or delete your data, reach us through our contact page.
